Homily Series: The Power of Parents

Rejoice in the Lord always/give thanks in all circumstances.

Fr. Steve gives thanks for all the students in the school and all the parents that send them there, for their sacrifice that allows their kids to experience a catholic education. This parish, community, and school have been operating since 1926 to educate and form disciples for the Lord. The legacy of the catholic school is formation.

Fr. Steve is grateful for the diversity that can be seen in the school. The high school has been doing what they can to address people’s concerns in this area. Fr. Steve encourages us to pray for the new diversity task force that Bishop Boyea is setting up, to pray that they listen to the voice of God.

Philippians 4 – “Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice.” All of our lives should be marked by joy. We trust that those who have died and gone before us experience new life in the Lord. At the baptism of a child the parents and godparent make a promise to bring them up in the faith. Parents are given kids to help them become saints and we are all striving together to become perfect through the power of the Spirit.

Fr. Steve expresses his hope that our homes will be places of blessings rather than of curses, so that our kids will know the dignity they have as sons and daughters of God. Saint Paul encourages us to focus on the positive. We are blessed to be a blessing. The more we receive God’s love, joy and peace, the more we can, as parents, hand that on to our kids.
