"By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed" (CCC #1285).

Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation.  Along with Baptism, and First Holy Communion, Confirmation "[lays] the foundation of the Christian life... The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these Sacraments of Christian Initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity" (CCC #1212).

Confirmation for Middle & High Schoolers
Children can choose to begin regular preparation for Confirmation during their 8th, 9th, or 10th grade years.  Confirmation preparation consists of weekly classes and a Confirmation retreat.  Class is typically held after the earliest Sunday mass for an hour and 15 minutes, begins in November, and ends in May.  The Sacrament of Confirmation is typically held at the Cathedral and presided over by the Bishop.  If you have questions about Confirmation preparation for children, please contact Brian Fink using the message box below, or contact Susan Bartold at the parish office, (517) 482-4749.

Confirmation for Adults
If you are an adult seeking Confirmation, please visit our our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) page for more information.
