At the Church of the Resurrection we consider healing to be an important part of the spiritual growth of every individual. In fact, healing and holiness amount to the same thing, because it is impossible to enter Heaven without being completely whole. To that end we have several ways in which parishioners can engage in the healing journey through our Healing Ministry.
On the second Saturday of even months, we hold a healing service called a Healing Encounter in which we gather together to pray for each other and to offer ourselves to the Lord for healing in body, mind and spirit. Learn more about Healing Encounters.
There are also opportunities for individual prayer, both at the Healing Encounters and in Healing Prayer Sessions. In a Healing Prayer Session, a team of two people will pray with the recipient to receive whatever healing God chooses to give them.
Prayer ministers in this ministry are people who have received healing graces themselves and have been trained by the John Paul II Healing Center in how to pray over others for healing. Healing prayer sessions take place Tuesdays through Thursdays in the parish office. Many people come once for an appointment, but others schedule follow-ups. At the Church of the Resurrection, we host a Mass of Generational Healing each year. Before the Mass, Fr. Steve gives a talk on how generational healing can perpetuate down the generations of a family. Fr. Steve encourages those with generational wounds to seek healing through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Listen to the homilies and talks about Generational Healing.
ORIGINS OF THE HEALING MINISTRY
In a talk before the Mass for Healing of the Family Tree, on March, 24, 2018, Fr. Steve explained the dynamics behind "Healing of the Whole Person," using Dr. Bob Schuchts' model. The talk explains how we are initially wounded and hurt in life and how our persistent sin arises from those wounds. Fr. Steve then went on to explain how the Lord can break into our suffering and sin and heal us, thus bringing about freedom in our lives, which in turn gives us the opportunity to grow in our relationship with the Lord and pursue holiness.
