Religious Education

We often get questions about Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation at the Church of the Resurrection and what those entail. Does Resurrection have "religious education?" Are there classes? What is offered at the school? What if we don't attend the school? How can my child prepare for their Sacraments?

At the Church of the Resurrection, we do not offer formal "Religious Education" classes, however, we do offer many wonderful options for religious formation. Some of those opportunities include the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, the Faith & Life online series, a Youth Ministry program, Vacation Bible School, Retreats, the Troops of St. George, the Little Flowers Club, and more!

Religious Education Overview

Students at Resurrection School receive religious formation in the classroom through our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, by attending Mass three times weekly, attending retreats, Adoration, and in many other ways in the classroom.

Parishioners with children who are homeschooled or who attend public or other schools may participate in formal religious education in the home, using the Faith & Life series online. If you have questions about religious education for your children, please contact Debbie McPherson at [email protected] or at the parish office, (517) 482-4749, for more information.

Sacramental Preparation

At the Church of the Resurrection, children who have been baptized as infants prepare to receive their First Reconciliation in the winter of their 2nd grade year, and they prepare to receive their First Holy Communion in the spring of their 2nd grade year. Children may choose to prepare for Confirmation during their 8th, 9th or 10th grade years.

We do not have parish-sponsored classes for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, as students in our school prepare during the school day, but we do assist parish families of children in other schools (or homeschoolers) with a curriculum completed at home. If you have a child preparing for their Sacraments, please visit the following pages for more details: Baptism, First Holy Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

We are excited to offer the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) to both our school children and parish families. To learn about our CGS program and to register, please visit our CGS page here.

Other Opportunities for Formation

There are many opportunities for your children to get involved and learn more about their Catholic faith. Please visit our Children's Opportunities & Youth Ministry page for more information.
