“[Music] has the power to lead us back ... to the Creator of all harmony, creating a resonance within us which is like being in tune with the beauty and truth of God, with the reality which no human knowledge or philosophy can ever express.” - Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
Our business, our mission, our purpose as musicians at the Church of the Resurrection is fostering beauty in our worship of God. Among the best means of evangelization available to the Church is her music and her arts. Man’s continual, burning drive to be re-united to the source of beauty lies in the very core of God’s creation. We have been created by the author of all beauty and our lives are marked by a deep desire to be one with the God of beauty.
The music—the art—that we employ as we celebrate the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours is much more than superficial decoration. It serves us to worship. It moves us beyond worldly distractions, beyond ourselves, as we collectively enter into the splendor of the Heavenly Liturgy. Our worship, when done well, transports us, lifts us up, and helps us experience anew and in an ever deeper sense our communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The gifts of the musician help make that great and awesome encounter possible. By God’s grace, the musician has the ability to create a context for worship, a context in which the souls of the faithful can participate fully in the Heavenly Liturgy, to be fed and transformed by the powerful encounter with the Living God.
